Remove WIN32: SOMOTO-J [PUP] (Somoto virus removal)

Hello. My Pc got infected with a Somoto virus. I have an Avast installed and it detects a presence of WIN32: SOMOTO-J [PUP]. Windows is now running so slow and Internet seems to have intermittent connection. Sometimes I can browse the net, but most of the time it doesn’t show anything aside from a blank page.

Perhaps, at this point my computer is heavily infected with a virus. The Somoto virus first appeared about a week ago. It displays advertisements, pop-ups, and other annoyances on the browser. I just ignored it since it only attacks Firefox. I still have Internet Explorer and Chrome, which are working well and not bothered by Somoto.

It was now that I realized I should have remove Somoto virus or WIN32: SOMOTO-J [PUP] on the first time it was detected on my PC. I hope it is not too late. I am praying that someone from this forum can help me remove the malware on my computer.

I am using an old Dell 6400 that is running on Windows XP. Avast is installed with the most recent database.

My computer is also infected with WIN32: SOMOTO-J [PUP] and just like you, I was not able to remove it using Avast. I scanned my computer with different tools like AdAware and Superantispyware. Several threats were identified and removed. It somehow speed-up my dying computer, however, ads and Somoto still remains on the computer. Please help us.

    Do what I did.
Download Avast and scan your PC.
Then it will say you should restart to do a verification.
Do that and your PC should go back to normal.
(PS – In case you’re wandering how I got it, it was when I tried to download MCPatcher for Minecraft 1.7.2. but then I read the comments that said it was virus so I went to the Task Manager, killed the process, and THEN I installed Avast.)

    Hope it works ;)
