Remove MyStart by Incredibar

Hi, just now, my computer keeps on redirecting to mystart.incredibar.com. I did not do anything foolish on my computer to have this virus. This just came out while I was using Facebook. Now, MyStart is all over my computer. When I search Google, the results are redirected to mystart.incredibar.com.

The web site is similar to Google search page; however, there are some advertisements. It has a title of ‘MyStart by Incredibar’.

I have run a scan of avg, malwarebytes, and combofix as suggested on another forum but the virus still remains. This infects not just Internet Explorer but also my Firefox.

Please tell me other removal tools to uninstall MyStart from my computer. All my trusted programs seem no match for this threat. They cannot even detect that the virus exists on my system, or they do not consider MyStart as a virus?

MyStart is an adware program. There should be an add/remove entry from control panel that you may use to uninstall MyStart. You can also try this procedure to remove it from different browsers.

    Remove MyStart in Internet Explorer:
    1. Open Internet Explorer.
    2. Go to Tools > Options.
    3. On General tab, proceed to ”Change search defaults” and click the “Settings” button.
    4. You will see a list of search providers. Select your desired search provider and click the button “Set as default” to replace MyStart by Incredibar.
    5. You may now remove MyStart from the list.

    Remove MyStart in Mozilla Firefox:
    1. Open Mozilla Firefox Internet Browser.
    2. On Google’s Search box, click the “arrow down” beside the logo.
    3. Select “Manage Search Engine” from the drop-down list.
    4. Choose your desired search default (like Google) and click the button “Move up.” It should be on the top of the list to set it as default.
    5. You can now remove other installed search engine.

    Remove MyStart in Google Chrome:
    1. Open Google Chrome.
    2. Click on the Wrench icon on top right corner of the browser.
    3. Choose “Settings” from the drop down list.
    4. Select “Basics.”
    5. Click on “Manage search engines” under SEARCH settings area.
    6. Hover your mouse to a preferred search engine and click “Make default.”
    7. You can now remove MyStart by Incredibar search by clicking on the X mark.

Uninstall a program called WebAssistant, it comes with Incredimail / Incredibar and hides the search engine control program.

  3. Leo

Thank you Mike! Your post about “WebAssistant” was right on! Finally, no more MyStart Incredibar Redirects! Yeah!!!

How I removed MYSTART from my Firefox:

    1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
    2. Type ‘about:config’ in the address bar and press Enter.
    3. When it shows a warning, just proceed.
    4. Next, it will display a window containing preferences.
    5. Type ‘mystart’ on the filter box to show only items related to MyStart.
    6. You can see the following items:
    – browser.search.defaultenginename : MyStart
    – browser.startup.homepage : http:// www. mystart.com

    7. Replace it with “Google” and “http:// www. google.com” respectively. You may input your desired search engine here.
    8. After making the changes, restart Firefox to see the effect.

have tried everything written but still havent been able to remove it from my google chrome(although i have removed it from firefox ang IE)!

  6. Sam11

I just had success with this with Firefox. Other browsers respond in a similar manner too.

First, remove/uninstall WebAssistant using the control panel as described above.

Next, use the drop-down box in the search area on the top right of the window to select Manage Search Engines. Remove the unwanted search engines.

    Now the important bits:

Type about:config in the URL line and enter. Accept the warranty risk when asked.

Next, find all the entries with incredibar or mystart one at a time. You may use the filter, but best spend an extra five minutes finding them yourself by scrolling. They are usually displayed in bold which makes the job easy.

On each entry, one, by one right click on the line and select Reset .

Once you have done them all, close the browser and try it out. It works for other unwanted toolbars and search engines like AVG Search too.

Hi, I’m using google chrome and I had sort of the same problem, when ever I opened a new tab, my incredibar crap came up, and since I couldn’t find the program on control panel or on my default search engines or anything suggested, I deleted the programs from my system files but it still came up, here is how I eventually got rid of the annoying thing.

    1. click the wench icon (3 bars in new version) in the top right hand corner.
    2. go to settings
    3. at the left hand side of the page you have three options, history, extensions and settings, click extensions
    4. delete the program that says something like new tab, the description says something about Google search engines and stuff like,

Basically, if you only use Google chrome for surfing the web and normal stuff and you haven’t purposely installed any extensions ( you would know if you did) then the extensions section should be empty, once you’ve removed it then press ctrl + t (this will open up a new tab and it should go to your original Google apps page.

Sorry about the long explanation, I just wanted to make sure i explained everything, thanking you

Dandy: just something to modify to Dandy’s June 26 2012 post:

    Step 7. You must type
    http:// www. google.com/search?q=
in the Value column to come up with a search result. Otherwise if you type ‘keyword’ it simply goes to www. google.com keyword and a ‘Server not found’ msg.

So: How I removed MYSTART from my Firefox:

    1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
    2. Type ‘about:config’ in the address bar and press Enter.
    3. When it shows a warning, just proceed.
    4. Next, it will display a window containing preferences.
    5. Type ‘mystart’ on the filter box to show only items related to MyStart.
    6. You can see the following items:
    – browser.search.defaultenginename : MyStart
    – browser.startup.homepage : http:// www. mystart.com
    7. Replace it with “Google” and “http: // www. google.com/search?q=” respectively.
    8. After making the changes, restart Firefox to see the effect.

  34. Janas

My computer is bothered by mystart by incrediar for three days now. I have been to other discussion board, but only this one gives me the perfect solution. My PC is now free from ‘mystart by incredibar’. Thanks to all.

  35. Sudarshan Reddy

    Hi WAYNE,
THANK YOU VERY MUCH but still i am facing same problem in Mozilla Firefox, is there any solution for Mozilla Firefox……..

  36. Lolo

I have tried every suggestion I could find on how to get rid of the Mystart new tab hijack from Firefox – nothing has worked. I have done the following:

    * removed any reference to mystart or incredibar from the control panel/programs area
    * deleted the perion folder from program files x86
    * checked msconfig and task manager for both mystart and incredibar, to no avail
    * changed the preferences in the other two browsers on my ssytem
    * changed FF default start page back to about:blank
    * removed any unwanted search engines from both the FF config and Windows config
    * changed/reset any strings found in about:config that reference mystart and incredibar (they keep reverting back to mystart hijacked ones after a browser restart)
    * started FF in safe mode, and still get the new tab hijack
    * I never had WebAssistant, so it’s not that
    * any software that it could have piggybacked on has been removed
    * have run Spybot and AVG to no avail

My new tabs are still getting hijacked. Is there ANYTHING else I can do?

  37. llboudreau

I use Firefox 14.0.1 I was able to remove all of the “incredicrap” from my computer with the exception of the MyStart search page. It only came up when I clicked on File>New tab in Firefox. Dandy’s advice regarding about:config in the address bar and searching for MyStart and changing the references back to, in my case Yahoo, worked. New Tab now brings up my Yahoo home page.

I did notice though that incredibar still has multiple listings under about:config. They are all of the order “extensions.incredibar.(various things such as admin, aflt, etc)” If anyone has any information concerning how to get rid of these I certainly would appreciate it. Thank you!

  38. Luc

    Thank you Wayne!!!!

  39. richie

For 2 days, my browser keeps on redirecting to mystart.incredibar.com and InrediBarGames.com. I was not able to stop it even though I have followed some guide from various web sites, until I arrived here and found this very effective solution. Thank you all. My computer is now incredibar free.

  40. llboudreau

I have tried everything suggested on this and many other forums, including a direct support request to Firefox, and nothing works to keep MyStart search page from coming back. Changing settings in about:config works as long as you are in that same Firefox session. Log out and back in and it will be back. This malware/virus is deep seated and impossible for any anti-virus or malware removal tool to find and eradicate. No matter what you do, it will replicate itself and reappear each time you click New Tab in a new Firefox session (signed out and back in). The attacker who developed this virus should be held accountable for their actions but let’s not hold our breath. According to Perion, the company behind this Incredicrap garbage, they have infected millions of computers through their software with this virus but are unwilling to remove it or even allow you to remove it because it brings in ad revenue to them.
Sorry for the rant folks but I am thoroughly frustrated, disgusted and totally fed up with Perion, Incredimail, Incredibar and MyStart. I am awaiting replies from Incredibar to the following two messages, for which I hold out little hope in resolving this issue.

    Message One to Incredibar support!
You caught me now tell me how to recover. Your infection of my computer through a phony download is not only reprehensible but is also morally and ethically wrong. This is the type of operation I might expect from the p**n industry, but certainly not from a supposedly upright and honest company such as yours. Anxiously awaiting a remedial reply.

    Message Two to Incredibar support!
Your company has seen fit to develop malware which has infected my computer. I run Firefox 14.0.1 I want to know what files hide the infection and how to completely, totally eliminate it. And once that is done, I expect an apology for all the trouble you have caused me.

Finally, I strongly suggest we all tackle the Head Offices of Perion to let them know that this crap is unwarranted, unwanted and unethical, as well as being indefensible.

  41. Mark

Thanks for the Help. I got rid of the “infection”, removed it from the list under “manage search engines” and added another step from another google search I did. I would give props to the provider but don’t remember which one it was, but it was to go into the registry and remove all references to MyStart and incredibar. Of course be very careful anytime you are using REGEDIT as you could do damage if you delete the wrong item. it could cause DAMAGE. Proceed with caution!! Thanks again.

  42. llboudreau

My final post. Afetr exhausting all avenues and suggestions, I took the advice of my Firefox contact and reset Firefox. After some tweaking and fine tuning, I am now back to normal, no more MyStart/Incredibar with New Tabs. My only concern is that it may still be lurking in my computer although it no longer shows up through malware/virus scans and/or on activating New Tabs. I am still waiting for replies from the perpetrators of this malware. My suggestion is that everyone who has had this problem contact Perion, (if you can figure out how, it ain’t easy folks!) and complain directly to them. Look at their company officers and any other person that you can complain to, again if you can figure out how to get to them. But above all, never, ever download anything that mentions MyStart/Incredibar/Incredimail, especially from a third party. (My original infection came from a Burn4Free
download which wanted to download all this crap and which I denied permission – it downloaded it anyway) Good Luck to everyone in your efforts to rid your systems of this garbage!

Hi, I had MyStart incredibar unknowingly load on my laptop. (It got installed on a Codec upgrade).
I thought I had unchecked all the additional unwanted stuff like toolbars, gadgets, offers, etc. but I missed this one.
First of all, it isn’t a virus or malware. It is a little piece of software that resets your browser to use MyStart as your browser. It can be removed and replaced with your original browser just by resetting your browser. It’s not a virus and when you reset your browser it will not return.

You have to remove it through your browsers settings. In my case it was Google Chrome. But if you have Firefox, or I.E. or any other browser you can get rid of it using the same methods.

Open your browser. If MyStart is opening instead of your usual browser just type your usual browser into the address bar and click it to get your browsers page to open and look as it is supposed to.

Look in the upper right corner of the browser and you’ll see Icons for Tools or perhaps Settings. This is where you want to go – into the settings section of your browsers options.

You need to do two actions to completely remove MyStart.
With Chrome it was simple to open the settings section and reset two items.
Your first step is to open settings either directly or through the tools option. If you can go directly to settings (as you can with Chrome) – do that.
Visually scan down to the second section (in Chrome)- “On Start up” section. You need to open that and you’ll find that MyStart is now selected as your browser on start up. You need to remove it by clicking the “X” or just erase it by clicking and dragging the cursor and then use the delete key. Either way works. You may need to restore your original browser if it’s not Chrome. Chrome automatically defaults to itself.
If you have another browser use the same approach to replace it and go back to your preferred browser.

Now go back to the previous main page for setting options.

The second step is to move down to the “Search” options section (it’s the fourth one down in Chrome). In there you’ll find it changed to MyStart. You need to restore your old browser in that little window. Just choose your old one (or maybe type it in). That’s it. MyStart will be gone.

Just be sure to complete these two actions and your machine will be free from this nuisance.
If it drove you nuts your not alone. I submitted this little fix to save you the trouble of loading other junk on your machine to get rid of it. NO software can remove it.
I have a sneaky suspicion that the folks who developed MyStart are marketing the fixes (that can’t work).

Remember, it’s not a virus or malware. It’s a download that changes your browser settings. Reset them back to their original settings and you’ll be happy once again.

Please leave a comment if this helped you. There are others in need of help with this pain.

Incidentally, If your using a browser other than Google Chrome, you might want to try it. It’s fast, filtersspam and you can block pop-ups and it even has good virus protection built in and a built in foreign language translator too. Anyway, I love it.A couple of techie friends recommended it over Firefox. In two years this is the first problem I had with it and it was my fault not Googles.

  49. JEE

Actually I went to the extensions tab at Chrome for several times, and I just deleted the WebAssistant thing.

While I was in the settings page of Chrome I noticed the “On Startup” options and saw where you can set the start up page to specific pages. This is where I saw both “babylon” and “mystarts” last place of hiding on my laptop. Hope this helps someone else. :)

Hello everyone if you people see the new tab opening after deleting extension in the settings or making just google your default browser what you need to do is go into settings in the menu there is an option “on start-up”; in the third option delete any set of pages just keep google and select option number 1 “open the new-tab” only. Hope it will be ok after that

  91. Micky

Wayne – You are a star! Thank you, thank you! MyStart has been driving me mad! I only wish I could bot them 10.000.000 times every 5 minutes for a week and take them out of this universe. Don’t you just HATE these money grabbing c*nts!

  92. Jory

    Hello.

I attempted to follow your directions to get rid of the MyStart/Instabar affects. I successfully managed to disable the search bars, and reset the tabs to open a blank page. However, it continues to open the MyStart page in spite of my changing the homepage repeatedly.

I already uninstalled WebAssistant, so I do not know how it continues to automatically set the home page. Is there anything else I can do to be rid of this?

    Thank you.

  93. trey

I’m SO worried. I’ve tried each and every instruction available on the net to get rid of it. I’m using Google Chrome. What should I do? Please help, someone!

    JUN 26, 2012 @ 23:21:58
hi, i’m using google chrome and i had sort of the same problem, when ever i opened a new tab, my incredi crap came up, and since i couldn’t find the program on control panel or on my default search engines or anything suggested, i deleted the programs from my system files but it still came up, here is how i eventually got rid of the annoying thing.

    1. click the wench icon in the top right hand corner.
    2. go to settings
    3. at the left hand side of the page you have three options, history, extensions and settings, click extensions
    4. delete the program that says something like new tab, the description says something about Google search engines and stuff like,

basically, if you only use Google chrome for surfing the web and normal stuff and you haven’t purposely installed any extensions ( you would know if you did) then the extensions section should be empty, once you’ve removed it then press ctrl + t (this will open up a new tab and it should go to your original Google apps page

sorry about the long explanation, i just wanted to make sure i explained everything, thanking you

Thanxx Dude It Worked for me .Wayne\m/

We have the same feeling experiencing Incredibar.
it is easy to remove just follow some instructions.
(note: this only for google chrome)

    1. Go to GOOGLE CHROME browser.
2.The click the TOOL icon on the right top corner.
    3. Choose settings.
    4. On the left corner, click EXTENSION. (now you can see the toolbars that are not needed to your browser so you can choose it to remove)
    5. Lastly click the DELETE icon of the app. you want to remove.

-that’s it. you will never go directly in Incredibar, when browsing. :) ???

  126. Wayne A.

JUN 26, 2012 @ 23:21:58. Great resource and description. This helped solve my problem. You need to delete the extension which was created by MyStart by Incredibar. It says “New tab for Chrome” 1.0.0.

    THX WAYNE!!!!
about:config > browse Incredible f*** bar and play > click left > “reset” < the selected line and be happy again !

  136. vectramind

Hello there, i’m facing the same problem with mystart search bar extension. Whenever i open the new tab, mystart search is opening. Actually , i removed it from my browser search engine list and uninstalled it too.
I tried in about:config options also and i reset the mystart.

But still it is opening when i open a new tab.
Its very annoying , can anyone have the solution??

  137. vectramind

    I’m using firefox version 15

  138. Aaron

    THANKS WAYNE!! YOUR MY HERO

  139. Edwin

I have tried removing this yet another virus-like unasked for toolbar by going to wrench, then settings, then managing search engines and all that has been suggested and it does not get mystart by incredibar removed from Google Chrome. I want Google toolbar as my exclusive toolbar. The only thing that can be removed is the whole of Google toolbar with the method suggested.

  140. jelleybaby

I have tried everyones advice and ended up uninstalling google chrome and just using internet explorer… but if i install google chrome the incredicrap comes back !!! arrrggghhhh

    I prefer chrome – any ideas ???

  141. jon

I have also followed all the instructions to remove mystart but the tab is still there even after uninstalling & reinstalling google chrome. Unless i can get rid of it i’m stuck using internet explorer but i prefer chrome.

  142. Chris

Most of the advice above is right, however it will definitely be in the program files (add/remove programs) from the control panel. If it is not called ‘Webassistant’ it will be called something else. If nothing else, remember the day it got on there and so from the top, click the date installed column and you will have all your programs in date order and then scroll down to find the cheeky sod. Same goes for all of these types of adware.

  143. aluku

    wayne, come get a beer!!!

  144. jon-s

This is how i completely removed MyStart from my computer and Google Chrome.

    1. Start > Control Panel > AddRemove Programs > Uninstall MyStart.
    2. Google Chrome > Wrench > Settings > Extensions > Click on bin next to MyStart.
    3. Google Chrome > Wrench > Settings > Manage Search Engines > Click on X next to MyStart.
    4. Google Chrome > Wrench > Settings > Open a specific page or set of pages > Click on X next to MyStart.

    I hope this works.

  145. Angela

Thank you Wayne, it worked perfectly, I think we all tend to overlook anything that said google the first time so I went back and saw the new tab word first and threw it in the trash, walAH it is gone, THANK YOU AGAIN>>> this should be WAYNE ROCKS PAGE!

  188. Ben

ok after the first 20 comment and nothing about having troubles on chrome i came to the bottom and typed this out. i have not been able to get rid of incredibar completely. i have almost gotten it (i think) but when ever i open a new tab i still get the mystart.incredibar.com/?loc=CH_NT to pop up but i cant change it. i have gone into the settings for the browser and changed the new tab opening to be about:blank and that still shows up. if anyone can help me with this i would be eternally great full. thanks for all the help and i love this site. peace out all

  189. Garrett

Easy Uninstall for Mystart Incredibar on Google Chrome,

    1. Close all open applications of Chrome, then open only one application of Chrome.
    2. Left click on icon that looks like 3 bars in upper right hand corner of Chrome (‘customize and control Chrome”) and a dropdown list opens up. (Instead of 3 bars you might have a wrench.)
    3. Click on “Settings” in the dropdown list. Settings tab opens up the Settings page.
    4. On “settings” page look for “On Startup” section.
    5. Left click on “Open a specific page or set of pages.” there will then be a black dot in the button.
    6. Left click on “Set pages” which is to the immediate right of “Open a specific page or set of pages.”
    7. A small window opens titled “Startup Pages”
    8. Roll your cursor across the startup pages and you will see that they change color and an “X” appears at the end of the line of the various startup pages.
    9. Click the “X” at the end of the line and that Startup page is removed.
10 After clicking the “X” of any page you wish removed (including “MyStart Incredibar”) the page will be removed from your Google Chrome tab. Then Click “OK.”

It’s as easy as that. Good Luck and God bless you all.

  190. Raymond Armstrong

I was having trouble with the ( Mystart-incredibar ) whenever I opened a new tab. I tried absolutely everything. So I started going through all my files on the laptop, and I found it. PROBLEM SOLVED. On my computer I went to
    : computer
    : local disc c:
    : program files
Then scrolled down and found a folder named PERION. I sent that file to the shredder and completely deleted the whole folder. bish bash bosh. DONE. The problem has been resolved. Hope this helps people. Thank me at [email protected]. please.

  191. lopes

Have been trying for a week to get rid of this in Chrome. Have done everything that has been posted. Got rid of it in IE, but not Chrome.

Finally discovered where the little threat was hiding.

In Internet Settings, there is a section called “On Startup”. You can choose “open new tab page”, “Continue where I left off”, or “Open a specific set of pages”. Click on Set pages. That was where my final issue was.

You will have to do it all, remove the program, the extensions, the home page….this may be the piece you are missing.

    Good luck

  192. Jonathan

Thanks Wayne! Your method works perfectly on Chrome.

  193. Raymond Armstrong

I posted an answer yesterday on how to get rid of Incredibar on chrome. Why would it not be posted. My way worked, and all the other answers are the obvious route that dont work

  194. rosa florence

Wayne’s idea worked for me with removing the extension “new tab” after I removed everything else that had to do with mystart.

  195. madpetz

TRY THIS : IN CHROME CLICK THE WRENCH>SETTINGS>ON START UP in “open a specific set of pages”
click SET PAGES then run your cursor over incredibar crap then hit the cross, and set your own startup page
like google or whatever you want.

    easy :))

    madpetz

  196. wingoh

all my web browsers are fine now.

    when i search “incredibar” in
    : computer
    : local disc c:

it still has incredimail, incredi tool bar, incredi cookie.

    how do i remove it?

  197. annabelle

Thank you to all in this forum
I tried everything else above & couldn’t get the stupid thing out of my sight-Deleting the Perion file, as Raymond mentions above, is what finally worked for me.

  198. jolynn

    Thank you Wayne!!!

  199. Lioness

Thank you Wayne! Removing the New Tab extension fixed my annoying problem with MyStart on Google Chrome! Finally!

  200. catharina

I did what madpetz said ,it worked ,thank you but….I could not get rid of the incredibar TOOLBAR,found it under the programs and features: —internet helper 1.5– – decided to delete it and the toolbar is gone ,things are back to insane again :) hope it helps finding the “hidden files”

  201. ari

    THANKS WAYNE!!! ^_^

  202. Crystal

Wayne’s method only redirects, but the program is still on your computer!!! You must go to program files and delete the folder named PERION… if you look in this folder, it has a text document that says FLAT OUT that it will redirect new tabs in google chrome to incredibar!!!! Thank you to everyone who pointed out this file name! I did what Wayne said, and had to re-download an extension in order to get my new tab option to work… But getting rid of the root file it came from what was I really should have done… All fixed now! :-D

  203. ann

THANKS WAYNE. OMG that thing was so annoying. WAYNE deserves a pint :)

  204. Fatou

Thank you wayne, your method was simple and it worked.

  205. Ellie

  206. benjee

Wayne you’re the EffenMan!!!! Thanks a lot!!

  207. Dave

Thank you I shall be toasting you health tonight for help me remove that pile crap!

  208. Satheesh

Thank you Dandy. Good steps. perfect. gone.

  209. S.

Thanks to all (not a single solution worked but a here and there depending on which search engine).

MSFT pop up when downloading photo files to Picassa – (didn’t even look much as I was in a hurry – had been out in cold weather shooting photos to sale items) then one week disaster!!! Silly me to download something I thought was from msft.

(did system restore twice) fixed (so far) firefox first, then ie – (reinstalled firefox seemed to do it) but not ie (did so much forget what worked).

Chrome – just when safe to go back into the water – there it was.

Settings as many mentioned but side bar to left and as many suggested delete the chrome extensions that had a chrome google firefox tab (when disabled ok when abled back came monster from hxll with new tab so I deleted it)… sorry did week of this and did not log my steps, lol…. it took many steps it seems not just one.

Not being tech savvy worried it was on my computer program files somewhere (and not wanting to mess with registry stuff I know I will kill my computer)

So this was most helpful – hopefully gone for good on all browsers.
    …………………………………….

(I am not computer techie so this finally gave instructions I could find it and YES it was there! )

    Thanks Raymond Armstrong

  210. Luis

Ok, I did EVERYTHING I saw in this post.
But I was still getting MyStart page when opening a new tab in Chrome (Version 23).
What did the trick was removing the two PERION folders from the system (one required re-boot to complete destruction via McAffee) and then I got bold and changed the two mentions to mystart incredibar from the registry.

    Go to Start
In the box you use to search for programs type CMD
The long forgotten DOS white on black screen appears
    type regedit and hit enter
Once you get the pop up ctrl+f will prompt you for your seach argument
    Yes, enter mystart
You will get a hit. Right click and on the pop-up, go for Modify and change the URL to http://www.google.com
    F3 will keep on seaching.
    You should get another hit.
    Do as above

    After that close everyrithing
Reboot … and MyStart will not start again

  211. jim

WHY is everyone gushing over Wayne? NOTHING HE SAID WORKED FOR ME! To start with, My Chrome browser doesn’t have a wrench in the top right corner. It has three horizontal bars. Nothing in Wayne’s instructions disabled or removed the incredibar. It also isn’t in the programs that I can uninstall in control panel.

  212. Dave29768

    Wayne, your the man…
Jim calm down! Deep breath, it does work.

  213. jyoti

    Thanku :-)
    it was really helpful.

  219. Brenda

WAYNE! THANK YOU!!!!!! Saved me hours of frustration! You deserve some really cool thing for helping everyone out! Someone take this guy out to lunch! :)

  220. Brenda

Jim, Yes, it is the three bars that you click instead of the wrench. Then click settings in the menu that pops down. Then continue with Wayne’s instructions by clicking on the extensions in the upper left. Good Luck! Incredibar is evil!

  221. Rusti

THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU. My avast BEST FREE VIRUS PROTECTION I EVER HAD ! CAUGHT 4 VIRUSES AND MY START INCREDIBAR WAS LISTED ON ALL 4. The link that someone posted above actually worked for me too. I had to reinstall some of the add-ons and extensions I had on Firefox, but everything is nice and clean now. Just make sure you follow the instructions for Firefox.

I removed the intrusive Incredimal and My Start easily and in a minute.by the following method:
    Open Internet Explorer
Click on Tools Icon (at top in rt. hand corner of screen – looks like a cog wheel)
    Open Internet Options
Under the home page box remove what is there and type in http: //www. google.com.au/ (or whatever you wish)
Click on Security and Open up Restricted Sites
Open the Sites box and type beside Add: http:// google. com.au
Beside Remove: http: //mystart. incredimail.com then Close

  229. Marissa

When you open Chrome, if multiple tabs open and one of them is MyStart:

    1. Click the Chrome menu .
    2. Select Settings.
    3. In the “On startup” section, select Open a specific page or set of pages.
    4. Click Set pages.
    5. Remove any unfamiliar pages. (e.g. MyStart)

    : program files
Then scrolled down and found a folder named PERION. I sent that file to the shredder and completely deleted the whole folder. bish bash bosh. DONE. The problem has been resolved. Hope this helps people.

Rob Martin, your solution on July 28, 2012 for removing MyStart on Google Chrome is the ONLY SOLUTION which worked! Like many others who are cyber-impaired, I was going crazy trying to get rid of this malware. I am sure you are some sort of genius!

If Chrome opens 2 tabs on startup (your normal chrome homepage plus the mystart tab) you need to do this:

1-click on the 3 bars icon on the top right
    2-click ‘settings’
3-underneath the ‘On startup’ heading click ‘set pages’
    4-delete incredibar

    hope this helps

  247. Tim

If you are having the problem where you open a new tab and it always, always, ALWAYS opens it in the mystart search engine click on the wrench (for me it’s three horizontal bars) in the top right corner. Look down the list and click on “View Background Pages” there should be something to the effect of “new tab” stop this from running. then proceed to open a new tab. If this did not work I am sorry… I’m doing my best people. Good Luck.

  248. rell

For Chrome users, you should know the following if previous suggestions don’t work for you:

There is an extension called “New Tab for Chrome” which allows you to choose what you want to see on a new tab. Incredimail installs (I believe) this extension and uses it to replace the newtab with its own search. There are a couple of ways to handle this (at least):

    1. Disable (or even Uninstall) the extension. To disable, in Chrome go to Settings, Extensions, and uncheck the checkbox next to “New Tab for Chrome”. New tab will revert to showing the default new tab page.

    2. Remove the files that Incredimail is using to install/highjack the extension. On my machine they were in /Program Files (x86)/Perion/NewTab and were data.txt (the website to use) and newtab.crx (the extension). Theoretically you should be able to edit data.txt to change the website to whatever you want but I haven’t tried this.

Also be aware that a new version of incredimail might well undo these changes. Fortunately reapplying them again is relatively painless. I have a deep abiding hatred of incredimail myself, but my wife likes it.

    WAYNE

  254. Sanket Chandak

thank u wayne for ur suggestion

  257. delirium

Thanks so much wayne. I had already figured uninstalled all the offending programs, and scoured my hdd with spybot and ad aware, but when opening a new tab i’d get the error “page mystart.something.or.other/search” cannot open. This fixed that! Thanks again.

  258. Tania Stannard

    Hi
I tried every solution I could find but mystart wasnt showing up anywhere within my settings for me to remove it so this is what I did….
I found an accidental folder which was causing me all this trouble. The only reason that it shows up in Google Chrome is that the file it is in is telling it to. The reason it will not show up on any Malware programs is that it’s NOT a Malware, well not yet. Here is what you do

Go to your C drive on your computer and go into the Program Files(x86). Find the FOLDER name Perion. When you double-click that folder inside is another folder called New Tab. Inside the New Tab folder are two files. Double-click the .txt file. If it says ANYTHING about mystart or incredibar DELETE the Perion FOLDER.

After you delete the folder open up Google Chrome and open up a new tab and it should be clear of mystart. Good luck x

  290. Nick

    DELETE Mystart Incredibar in Chrome:

    – Make sure to look in appwiz.cpl (application wizard in control panel) for any unwanted programs e.d. Web Assistant or something called: Unknown.
    – Make sure to check the extentions in chrome, only the ones you need. for example I only have Addblock + and ghostery. Delete the rest
    – This was the critical step to my chrome: Press in chrome search bar ”chrome://settings/startup” (without the quote marks). It should only say Google, make sure to delete the miserable MyStart incredibar.

    Hope this works! Cheers!

I had the same problem with my Google Chrome & tried everything above to no avail. I followed Wayne’s directions above. Could NOT find in extensions. What worked for me was going to settings as Wayne says but instead of going into extensions I clicked on “Open a specific page or set of pages”. When I clicked on that I found mystart in there & deleted it with the X. Finally worked and got rid of it. Now when I open Chrome it goes straight to my homepage.
