Mouse Navigation Goes Crazy and Red Checkmark has Appeared on Folders icon in Control Panel

While Mouse traveling/navigating, suddenly and randomly opens numerous unselected program windows and menus at an extremely rapid rate (seems to happen more often near start button) to the point of an audible signal for maxing out. Also Mouse has frozen at times and windows have been unable to be closed or deselected.

Also a Red Checkmark has appeared on my Folders icon in Control Panel that I do not know how to remove. Recently cleaned Trojan Zlob and Rogue with ThreatFire and Malwarebytes successfully. Ran several other scans using ClamWin and Spybot Search & Destroy. Also used CCleaner. Using Windows XP Professional Edition with Sygate Personal Firewall, Firefox 3.0.5 browser, AdBlock Plus and McAfee SiteAdvisor. Used instructions for restoring hidden and locked files that I found from other users here. ALL SHOW NO THREATS, BUT THESE TWO ISSUES STILL EXIST.

Any suggestions/fixes so much appreciated

Mouse issue can be a defective mouse, try using a different mouse and see what happens. Have you tried updating all your scanners and do scan once more?
