I feel your pain. First, I am not by any means an expert. But, I am a victim.

Apparently, the 2010 version of this virus prevents your opening your computer using the safe mode. I read some material on line recommending Malwarebytes (malwarebyes.org). While it seemed to remove the Windows Security 2010 virus, my computer was not working well after the fix (whose fault I cannot say, but I suspect, mine). Then, I just wiped the hard drive using the system on the D drive (non destructive reformatting, which saves most of your programs and files–I had to reinstall Office from the disks). I did note that Malwarebytes did remove traces of the virus on the D drive, so I’d run that first. If that works for you, great. If not, reformatting seems to have done the trick for me. Actually, this is something that you should do yearly or so. It’s amazing how much faster your computer works after a reformatting.

I consulted a consultant friend on this question. Apparently Microsoft Security Essentials will track this virus down and remove it where none of the other programs, including Norton and NOD, will. I have since installed this free software from Microsoft on two computers and have not had a problem since.

I see your string dates back to december so I guess you have resolved the issue by now.I was recently infected with this so-called malware which is actually a destructive hack. I was fortunate to find instructions on the web to disable and remove this illegal trojan. It should not be too difficult to trace the authors of this illegal software and prosecute them (30 years in jail seems a suitable sentence). If the authorities are so keen to track bit_torrent sites why do they not pursue the destructive hackers?

We had the same problem. We put the computer in safe mode and then was able to dlownload the virus remover as ours had just expired and had to update. Also, we were told we should have unplugged the internet right away as it was still able to get to our computer while we were trying to fix it. But we did get it fixed by using safe mode. Good luck
